The MAY Made It Challenge – Prepare yourself for more WOW’s

Welcome back to the May’s Made It challenge! I thought I’d have this post out a few days ago, but alas, life sometimes yets in the way. At the rate the entries are coming in I am going to be blogging for the rest of the month –  I’d better get my A into G fast!!!

Ok, next up…

measured and slow

Hexie Quilt by Measure And Slow

Okay. I know you are all 100% behind me here when I say…WOW WOW WOW. When I first laid my eyes on Alyssa from Measured & Slow’s incredibly beautiful quilt, I couldn’t quite believe my eyes. Firstly, me and sewing have never seen eyelet to eyelet so I am no expert here, but still, I’m pretty sure this is a mega-major project.  About 1500 tiny hexagons went into making this quilt AND they were all initially HAND SEWN together – the mind boggles! Hats off to you Alyssa – this is an amazing feat of love, passion and hard work!!!!

neiderman

I personally had the double satisfaction of seeing Michelle Niedermann’s knitted stipey baby blanket –  knitted for a brand new baby –   not just because the yarn, a gorgeous shiny bamboo fibre (Vinnis Serina) came from my little shop, but because it is STUNNING! Even knowing how beautiful the yarn is and how delicious the colours are, I never imagined the blanket could turn out quite so beautifully! (you are mentally making a plan to knit one, aren’t you?!). Click on the pic for another photo of Michelle’s blanket, in all its lovely glory!

Ruthie’s Birthday Bag by O’Noodles

I know that there are loads of crafters out there that are super talented at many different media. Jill from O’Noodles is not only one of them, she also brings her own unique zaniness to everything she creates! I absolutely love this exquisitely made bag (you lucky thing, Ruthie!) with it’s gorgeous print and beautiful rosette with vintage button. Pssst, the bag is lined with the same fabric at the rosette – very indulgent! More from Jill soon ….

In Love With Leg Warmers by Pretty Blue Bird Studio

Ooooooooooh PINK, COLOUR, PINK, SUNSETS, PINK!!! Okay, I’m calming down± But really, wow. Those colours are sublime. These, may I say, very sassy looking leg-warmers were hand knitted by Madeleine of Pretty Blue Bird Studio and look fantastic –  of course, I does help if you have the legs and the toes to match! I so enjoy everything she makes, writes and photographs – go have a look for yourself. Never before have the 80’s looked so cool.

See you VERY soon!

spring

….and it you are on the top part of the world, then HAPPY CHANGING OF THE SEASONS!

For me, August was a mushy mix of a month filled with new challenges, new routines, sunny days, stormy days, meetings, parties, (and that’s just the kids stuff!) friends, a spot of crochet here and there, walks, about a gazillion school drop offs & pick ups and tons of family fun…you know, all the usual stuff

I CANNOT tell you how much I’ve missed my Made It family and how much I’m looking forward to an exciting month of Made It entries – ahhhhh!

I’ve sent froggy on his merry way (simply because I’m….um, too technologically-challenged and cannot seem to get the right code that take one to the new-look collection, so he had to go) and am just going to use the Made It challenge ICON from now on, so where ever you see this piccie, you can click on it to enter your links…easy peasy!

July Made It – What’s the collective noun for many new entries? Ahh, its…a “Craft” of New Entires!

huh, get it…”CRAFT of new entries”?? (Raft = many and Craft=Genius Husband)! Soooo gonna ™ that one!

Reminds me of one of the funniest moments of my life. I was playing Trivial Pursuit with my boyfriend at the time – I was probably 19, he was a 26 year old psychology student and I was so into him because he was mature, smart and interesting. His home language was Afrikaans – a Dutch originated language. Difficult to describe how all our 11 official South African languages fit in but in a nutshell, here in Cape Town specifically (and only in my own general opinion based on my circle of influence) there are mainly 2 spoken languages – English and Afrikaans.  Unofficially, English is more widely spoken even if you are Afrikaans. In a nutshell in another nutshell – if two friends meet or a drink and one is English and one is Afrikaans, they will be probably speak English –  you get my drift??)

Anyway, here’s the scenario

Me and Boyfriend playing Trivia Pursuit on the floor in front of the fire and it’s my turn to ask the question. He rolls the dice and lands on yellow. History.

Question – What craft was used in WW1 to….(and I honestly cannot remember the rest of the question)?

Answer –  Submarine

His answer.

Weaving!!!!!!

I rolled on that floor in a fit of laughter, clutching my tummy for hours before I could catch my breath to explain how we got lost in translation.  Luckily, he had the good grace to laugh along with me even though he had no clue why…ahh, good times!

So on that note, let me introduce you to the sensational Craft Of New Entires! BUT before I do, I have some house keeping to do.

I am not known for my impeccable accuracy and I  have been know to be too spontaneous, AND my brain can be quite sieve-like at times….so I humbly apologise to the following ladies, for the following boo boo’s:

For calling the lovely Teresa from Little Poppits, Laura last month. One month we had so many Laura’s and it looks like I got carried away.

For confusing Jane from Rainbow Junkie’s entry this month – she actually entered her coaster (pls see below) but I got all ga-ga over her bunting. I thankfully managed to persuade her to enter both!

For adding Jill from Nice Piece of Work’s Owl Mitts to my FB page and calling her Jane….arrrrgggg! Sorry!

Thank you all for your generous forgiving spirits!

Right, on with the show

owl-mitts

Owl Mitts by Nice Piece Of Work

Seems that the world is owl crazy, and you can hardly blame us. These little Owl Mitts are so adorable and Jill from Nice Piece Of Work is as crazy as the rest of us. I have to keep hiding these posts from my kids otherwise they are gonna cost me a fortune!

P.s totally LOVIN’ the cross-eyed look!

Miss Jaymi by Moz Roberts

I am blown away by the talent of Moz of All Things Moz. Firstly, I ‘d like to welcome Moz back to the challenge, I see she has been a busy busy lady. These amazing AMAZING bears and bunnies, like Miss Jaymi here, are made for babas whose parents are from different countries. See the little flags on the feet?!! What a fantastic idea! Go and have a look x

coasters

Colourful Coasters by Rainbow Junkie Corner

Here are the gorgeous coasters that Jane from Rainbow Junkie meant to enter, in the same lovely colours as her bunting. I must say, I do prefer coasters like these that are solid in colour but still a set of different ones – especially if they all complement each other. However, I’m a little seduced by the rainbow coloured one at the foot of her post, and you?:)

Fishy Felt Cushion by Love, Lucie

A massive welcome to Lucie from Love, Lucie. I bow down to anyone who has the talent / precision / passion / imagination  to sew  hand stitch such teeny, unique and individual little fishies altogether! WOW, what a stunning cushion! Thanks Lucie, I’m sure we’re all going to enjoy watching what you get up next.

Woolly Winter Beanie by Robyn Alexander

I apologise for the teeny size of this pic, but unfortunately this pic was sent to me via Instagram and I can’t seem to get it bigger. However, I can tell you from experience that this beanie was made with the most stunning pure Merino wool, hand spun and dyed right here in South Africa. Rustic, chunky and warm as anything!!! Thank you so much Robyn Alexander for sending me a pic of your latest make.

It’s the Weekend! Hope you are all having a relaxing one and doing whatever makes your heart & soul happy. I’ve been busy with all sorts of things that fill me with glee; designing, thinking, writing, packing, problem-solving, crocheting etc so I will spill beans as they all come together.

Well, the July Made it is off to a great start with the first 3 gorgeous entries in but before I show them to you, I’m sure you’ll be keen to see this months prize.

Tamara from Crochet with Tamara, who won the May Made It challenge has so very kindly (and incredibly generously) donated this month’s prize:

Crochet Pouch by Angella DeeDesigns

First in this month are TWO wonderful projects made by Angella of AngellaDeeDesigns. I say this all the time but DO VISIT HER BLOG! She always seems to be busy with something new, exciting and inspiring.  Her  daisy cushion is so very cheerful and she has included a link to the pattern (very similar to what I’m busy with too!).

I love this pouch –  the little personal touches at the end, the feather, the little bottle with the word HOPE inside…this is exactly what Angella is all about!

More October Made It entires

Well hellooooooo!

I don’t know about you but the weeks are flying by and I find myself over-promising and under-delivering in loads of areas of my life. Not good. This has been one of those weeks where making a list just isn’t good enough – usually that can make me feel great for ages!

Am I the only one who wants to lock myself in a room and JUST CROCHET!?!

The only thing to do is actually get on with ticking those items off one by one and I am happy so say that I am getting “through stuff”! It won’t be long now before I can sit down quitely…ahhhh quite…and get busy with making something worthy to enter into the Made It! One day, I am going to shock you all – just like Patch did – by being early!!!

Anyway, enough about that – let me get on with showing you our latest entries

These stylish socks are another of Rene’s from Living in Sunny SA‘s  stunning creations! I am always amazed at how gorgeous her colours look. I’m never brave enough to use or to mix certain colours but she seems to have the knack!

Check out this super funky……frisbeeee!!! Welcome to the challenge and thank you Lisa Victoria from YarnChick40, this is so cool. I love this pattern for a bowl too maybe? Beautiful stitching and colours.

Trish (from MadeByPatch), PLEAAAAAAASE get your online shop up and running (tell Mr P that it is vital)….I WANT THESE! Tooooo beautiful…

I want to say a MASSIVE, HUGE, GIGANTIC *****  THANK YOU ***** to all of you who have entered/is entered will enter/reblogged/mentioned/though about/promoted this monthly challenge! I am gobsmacked at all the talent out there and how this wonderful online community is so willing to share and connect. I truly love it and I hope you do too.

Now before the violins come out – I will go. But before I do I want to share with you this Pink Ribbon. October is breast cancer awareness month and coincidentally I found myself hoofed off by my doc to have a strange lump checked out last Friday. Thank heavens all is fine but I can honestly say that the feeling of knowing that everything is OK rather than putting it off and fretting about it is just FAN-FRIGGING-TASTIC!

I highly recommend a check up ladies! Keep well xxx

Keep ’em entries comin’!
